Northern Ireland Target Sports Association

The following competitions are held each month;

  • Police Pistol 1st Saturday of each month.
  • Service Pistol 2nd Saturday of each month.
  • PPC 1500, 3rd Saturday of each month,
  • Bench Rifle (small-bore) Mini Rifle and Small-Bore Pistol U.I.T.
  • Practical Pistol 5th Saturday of each month

If you are not a member of NITSA but are a member of another full-bore club and you would like to enter any of our competitions then please email info@nitsa.org.uk and we will try and accommodate you.

Competition Rules

Practical Pistol

Course of Fire:
Provided during stage briefing.

Starting Position:
Provided during stage briefing.

R.O. Commands:

  • "Load And Make Ready."
  • "Are You Ready?"
  • "Standby."
  • "Start Signal."
  • "Stop."
  • "If You Are Finished, Unload And Show Clear."
  • "If Clear, Hammer Down, Holster."
  • "Range Is Clear."

N.I.T.S.A. Service Pistol B

Course of Fire:
Stage 1: 25 metres 6 shots on left target in 15 seconds.
Stage 2: 20 metres 6 shots 3 on each target in 10 seconds.
Stage 3: 15 metres 6 shots on right target in 9 seconds.
Stage 4: 10 metres 6 shots 3 on each target in 6 seconds.

Firearms:
Any centrefire pistol or revolver calibre .354 to .455in.

Position:
Standing. Both hands may be used to hold or steady the pistol.

Ready Position
Pistol held at waist height pointing up range parallel to ground.

Targets:
Two figure 11/59 charging man per competitor.

R.C.O. Commands:

  • "Six rounds load, make ready. "
  • "Anyone not ready?"
  • "Targets away watch and shoot watch and shoot."

After the Series is fired:

  • "Unload and show clear."
  • "All clear."
  • "Are there any protests?"
  • "No protests, face targets."
  • "Advance and score."

PPC 1500

All timings include reloading, all shots to be fired in strings of six.

MATCH {1}
Standing - 12 shots in 20 seconds at 7 metres
Standing - 12 shots in 20 seconds at 15 metres

MATCH {2}
All shots at 25 metres total time 90 seconds
Kneeling - 6 shots
Standing - 6 shots left handed behind post
Standing - 6 shots right-handed behind post

MATCH {3}
All at 50metres
Sitting - 6 shots
Prone - 6 shots post may be used
Standing - 6 shots left hand behind post
Standing - 6 shots right hand behind post
Total time 165 seconds

MATCH {4}
All at 25 metres
Standing - 12 shots in 35 seconds
Standing - 12 shots in 35 seconds

MATCH {5}
Stage 1
Standing - 12 shots in 20 seconds at 7 metres

Stage 2
All at 25 metres, total time 90 seconds
Kneeling - 6 shots
Standing - 6 shots left hand, behind post
Standing - 6 shots right hand, behind post

Stage 3
All at 50 metres
Sitting - 6 shots
Prone - 6 shots post may be used
Standing - 6 shots left hand, behind post
Standing - 6 shots right hand, behind post
Time allowed 165 seconds

Stage 4
At 25 metres
Standing - 6 shots in 12 seconds

NOTE

Any revolver/pistol from .32 to .45
All rounds to be on person no loading from ammo box
No sighting shots or allowances for malfunctions permitted
Where specified posts must be used
Barricade to be used as cover but firearm must not touch it
Penalties may be imposed for failure to comply
All matches start with firearm loaded and holstered
Once loaded and holstered it is assumed the competitor is ready
Except for 50 metre stage all shooting must be double action

Competitors will shoot Match 1 2 3 4 and finally the four stages of Match 5. The competitor will therefore go to the firing line on two separate occasions and will require 90 and 60 rounds respectively.

  • "Load and holster"

  • "The line is ready"
  • "Whistle blast to start and finish each match/stage of competition "
  • "Competitors shoot match 1 to 4 and then have a break before starting match 5"

Course of Fire:

Practice A
Total of 12 shots in two minutes including reloading. 25 metres

Practice B at 15 metres
Total of 12 shots. The target will make 6 appearances of 2 seconds with intervals of approximately 5 seconds, 1 shot to be fired at each appearance. This practice is fired twice.

Practice C at 10 metres
Total of 6 shots. The target will make 3 appearances of 2 seconds with intervals of approximately 5 seconds, 2 shots to be fired at each appearance

Note:
In practices B and C the pistol must be returned to the ready position between target exposures.

Firearms:
Any centrefire pistol or revolver calibre.354 to .455in.

Position:
Standing. Both hands may be used to hold or steady the pistol.

Ready Position:
Pistol held with arm(s) below 45 degrees pointing at ground.

Targets:
One PAA Figure per competitor.

R.O. Commands:

  • "Six rounds load and make ready"
  • "The targets are facing the competitors. "
  • "Anyone not ready"
  • "Targets away stand by"
  • "The targets turn away and appear after approximately 5 seconds for the practice."

After the practice is fired:

  • "Unload and show clear"
  • "All clear, are their any protests "
  • "No protests, show targets advance and score"
  • "The targets are turned to face the competitors."

About Us

We have three 25metre and two 50metre outdoor ranges at our site on the Buskhill Road, Donaghmore, Newry, Co. Down, BT34 1SD. The Buskhill Road is located seven miles north of Newry and seven miles south of Banbridge just off the main A1 dual carriageway.
